Angel on Earth |
December 4, 2008 |
We moved here from Colorado in July and my son Sheldon started school here in the fall. He was in Mrs. Huizinga's class. She took Sheldon under her wing and made a difficult transition to a new school a pleasant one. Mrs. H. called me almost every week to let me know how Sheldon was doing. She truly was an angel on Earth! We miss her already!

I cannot express enough the impact Barbara had on my son Colton. Her continuos help throughout middle school gave him the push he needed to strive harder in his studies. Because of her belief in him he is doing great in high school. I thank Barbara from the bottom of my heart for having such a positive impact on my son. My deepest sympathy to the Huizinga family.

She was GREAT! |
December 4, 2008 |
Mrs. Huizinga was a very sweet teacher! She helped me a lot last year in 7th grade and she would trust me with anything. It was a suprise to all of her students of what happened and I am so sorry for your loss! We will never forget her. I am definitely wearing purple to school tomorrow in her memory.

I had the privilege of being a cohort of Barb's for eight years. She was charming. Barb was truly a child advocate and was totally committed to her students. Every time she saw me in the cafeteria (daily) she would always tell me a story about the achievements of one of her students and sometimes "pulled" me from the cafeteria to go to her area to actually see the results. She was so proud of them.
Barb was always eager (with some encouragement sometimes) to learn new things. Excent was one of them. However, she gave it a shot and soon became an expert at writing IEP's using the Excent program. Barb was one of those teachers that always gave it her best. I really appreciated that, and she truly helped make the school what it has become today. To all the lives she has effected over the years there is not one of us that is not saddened this day. We however, are better people for having had Barb in our lives. You will be missed and I will never forget you. Go in peace. Gary Wetherill, Principal, Venice Middle School 1996-2005.

Dr. H & Family, My son Mike and I never had the pleasure of meeting Barbara, but as another person put, we definitely feel like we knew her and felt your love for her through the sparkle in your eyes everytime you spoke of her during our meetings. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! And as I read the other condolences and candles, please find comfort in knowing how much she was loved. God Bless!
