Speaking as a mom of one of the many students that Mrs. H. touched I will say what an Angel she truely was. Working with children that have learning disabilities is never easy yet she did it with ease and won award after award for it. ESE teachers have a special calling - she will be missed! Dear Raliegh,

I didn't know Barb personally, but I knew her through the glow in your face and the twinkle in your eyes each time you spoke of her.  I knew of her work at VAMS through my granddaughter and her friends that attend there.  She will continue to live on in each life that she touched, for I believe that that was her legacy....to give of herself to others.  Look around and you will see her....everywhere.

Barb was a wonderful combination of positive personality and sense of humor.  She never saw an obstacle and gave her all to the students and staff at VAMS.  I have fond memories of our years teaming together! 

I was also blessed to know Barb as a parent through Marc, who was an absolute joy to teach thanks to his upbringing. Barb was a role model for me, also, in many ways.

 

My heartfelt sympathies to all who are missing Barb! Her patience and grace will always be remembered!

Uncle Raleigh, Chris, and Marc,

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I have wonderful memories, however brief and far apart, of times spent with Aunt Barbara.  I will keep all of you in my prayers during this difficult time.  I'm sure she is out walking on a crystal beach right now!

I never had the priviledge of meeting Barbara, but I recall, almost ten years ago now, stories that Jessica would tell me about her soon-to-be mother-in-law.   I also know that Barbara had to be an amazing woman because of the type of person that her son, Marc, is.  Jessica & Marc, I am so sorry for your loss!  My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire Huizinga family.

To both of Barbara's families (home and school),

Barbara was such a lovely person. I never taught on the same team with her when I was at VAMS, but she was always so sweet to me and her concern for her students was legendary. Her sense of humor was amazing.  May we all have half of her unlimited capacity for loving our students.

So often over the years I have had pictures in my memory of Barbara as we raised our families together. Many fun times at some of her favorite places - St. John, Maplewood and anywhere with a beach. She was a special person with a deep love for her family, she will always be a part of each of you.

Marc and Chris - I have many fond memories of your mom, almost all of which involve a smile and laughter.  Hopefully you shared enough of those moments that they will stay with you the rest of your lives. 

I'm sorry that I can't make it to Venice this weekend, but please know that my thoughts are with you as you mark this difficult but important passage.
